Blue Note Jazz Club
Is there any location in the America more appropriate for a world-class jazz club than Greenwich Village? The Blue Note on West 3rd St. in Manhattan celebrated its 30th birthday in 2011, three decades of showcasing the greatest jazz performers of our time.
Think I’m exaggerating? Check out this partial list of those who’ve played the Blue Note: Chick Corea, Chris Botti, Sarah Vaughn, Maynard Ferguson, Nina Simone, Billy Eckstine, Tito Puente, Stan Getz, Oscar Peterson, Dizzy Gillespie (pause for a deep breath), Gerry Mulligan, Lionel Hampton, Wynton Marsalis, Herbie Hancock, Earl Hines, and Chuck Mangione. Lest you think only the big names make it to the Blue Note, the club has a Monday Night series and a program called Late Night Groove to encourage local musicians and rising stars.
If you’re going to New York, you can hear music every night at 8 and 10:30 p.m. Want something different? Head over on Sunday afternoon for a special Sunday jazz brunch. Jazz and brunch together? Man, that’s living, big city style.
