Appreciating all that makes America special

Tracking Santa Claus on Christmas Eve

The good people at NORAD forget about attacks on the homeland tonight, and focus instead on keeping children up to date with Santa's progress. Uploaded by wikia.com.

Legend has it that it all started with a typo. Sears printed a number that kids could call to keep up with Santa, and it went to NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense Command) instead. Those playful types at NORAD decided to play along, and a tradition was begun.

Now NORAD has a great website that allows you to follow Santa in real time via Google Earth and Google Maps. The site is http://www.noradsanta.org/en/ Here you can see how many presents Santa has already delivered (it’ll be in the billions) and get updates on Facebook and Twitter.

I’m just glad NORAD has all this free time on their hands. Makes me feel very secure to know that they don’t have to worry about anything incoming that isn’t pulled by eight tiny reindeer.
