“Green Eggs and Ham”
Is Green Eggs and Ham the most popular Dr. Seuss book of all? A couple of lists I found both placed it at number two, but I’m giving it my highest honor. As the best of the good Doctor’s books do, it teaches a great lesson in a way that’s memorable for children (and adults).
Many kids are picky eaters, and the persistent Sam-I-am prods them into trying new foods. They can eat them in a box or with a fox. They can eat them in a house or with a mouse. And despite the many repeated protests, they finally try green eggs and ham. And they exult:
“Say!
I like green eggs and ham!
I do! I like them Sam-I-am”
Thanks to annual graduation ceremonies, Oh, the Places You’ll Go sells more copies. But is there a more enjoyable book to read to children? Parents for more than a half century vote for Green Eggs and Ham…Sam-I-am.
