Hanauma Beach, Hawaii
Snorkeling. They come for the snorkeling. One look at the pictures on this page give an indication of how accessible the waters are even for beginners. But the main draw is the wide variety of species in the bay.
Turtles, milletseed butterfly fish, yellow tangs, trumpet fish, angel fish, and many more. All there waiting for the snorkeler to enjoy or photograph with an underwater camera. You can also see the official fish of Hawaii, the humuhumunukunukuapuaa. And if you think I just cut and pasted that name, you’re darn straight.
A shop set on the beach rents snorkeling gear if you can’t bring your own. And if you’re not in the mood to snorkel, well there’s an exceptionally beautiful beach there as well. And trails that take you up to the top so you can see the whole crater. You’ll find Hanauma Bay on the island of Oahu, just east of Honolulu.
