George Clooney
It’s hard not to like George Clooney. He could be making a good living as an actor who gets by on his charm and good looks, but he wants more. He wants to be considered a serious actor.
He cares about suffering in the world – no one has done more to make the world aware of the horrors in Darfur than Clooney. I’m not a fan of his political worldview, but I can’t help it. I like the guy.
Honestly, it goes back to one of my favorite movies: O Brother, Where Art Thou? Clooney was so good in that Coen Brothers film that I became a fan. I’ve enjoyed many of his other movies as well, and he’s made quite a few. Here’s a sampling of the better ones:
- Batman and Robin (1997)
- Out of Sight (1998)
- Three Kings (1999)
- The Perfect Storm (2000)
- Ocean’s Eleven (2001)
- Good Night, and Good Luck (2005)
- Syriana (2005 – Best Supporting Actor)
- Michael Clayton (2007 – Nomination)
- Up in the Air (2009 – Nomination)
- The Descendants (2011 – Nomination)
I’m also a big fan of Out of Sight, which was based on the novel of the same name by the great Elmore Leonard. No doubt, there are a lot more great films and Academy Awards in Clooney’s future. I hope he realizes that he has a gift for comedy, and doesn’t feel compelled to overcome the “stigma” of being handsome by making only important movies.
